Prostate Cancer Diagnosis - Fusion Biopsy

Most prostate cancers cannot be seen with a standard ultrasound - a standard TRUS biopsy is shooting in the dark. Multiparametric MRI scanning of the prostate allows us to see most prostate cancers but it is difficult to use MRI to guide a biopsy needle. MRI-TRUS fusion biopsies allow us to direct the biopsy needle to the precise area of abnormality seen on the MRI.

This technique allows some men to avoid the more invasive technique of transperineal saturation biopsy.
